Past Weekend Was a Blast

I had a really good time this past weekend. It began with our Liberated Muse production-- A Celebration of Freedom. The event, held at the Potter's House in DC was part of our book tour for Liberated Muse Volume I: How I Freed My Soul which was released in June. The evening was accented by phenomenal talent and the debut of our art exhibit. I was the host and my friend, who is also a member of LiberatedMuse.com, Sharon Burton, was curator of the exhibit. My life partner Hook and I were at the Potter's House early on Friday helping Sharon hang the art from the artists in the exhibit.

Why Judy Blume Was In My Head

I’ve been reading since I was three years-old. Then, my hands were barely big enough to hold a hard-cover illustrated storybook, my lap too small to hold the stacks of books I loved to pull from the shelves at the library. But, my love affair with words was immediate and addictive. Inquisitive (read: nosy) from birth, it seemed, learning to read was my passage-way into constantly unfolding stories and undiscovered worlds. During pre-teen years, my reading addiction led me to create a new type of insubordination that parenting manuals hadn’t prepare my mom for; she routinely had to reprimand me for neglecting my household chores in pursuit of finishing a new book I had checked out from the Book Mobile. So, when I became a new fan of Judy Blume’s young adult books, Mom’s job as disciplinarian became all the harder. Heading to Texas for Pedagogy & Theater of the Oppressed Conference

We performed in the 2009 Pedagogy & Theater of the Oppressed Conference in Minnesota ) I was excited to learn week before last that my proposal was selected as a workshop for the upcoming Pedagogy and Theater of the Oppressed which will be in Austin, TX this year. I attended the conference last year with The Saartjie Project and we performed then. I enjoyed being in Minnesota, but I am really looking forward to being Texas. I've only been in Texas briefly when we stopped in Texas when I was a cruise of the Gulf of Mexico. The workshop I'm presenting is about my first play Shades of Black: a thought in progress which I wrote and produced when working as a college administrator.
